In the grounds of Old Pier House and Loch Ness Log Cabins we have a boating pond with small boats available, loch-side picnic benches and many short walks.
Day Excursions
Easily accessible day trips could include a visit to the Isle of Skye, Ullapool, Aviemore and The Cairngorms, Fort William and Ben Nevis, Mallaig and the West Coast, Inverness and the Black Isle just to name a few. Whether you would like to see castles, distilleries, wildlife or waterfalls the Highlands have everything for you to see and do.
Bird Watching
Due to the variety of surrounding habitats from heathland to woodland you can watch numerous birds and wildlife in and around the house including watching the garden birds from the breakfast room. Other bird species you may see include predators, woodland, moorland and water birds. There are also several RSPB reserves that you could visit within a day.
Walking and Cycling
The Great Glen Way long distance walking and cycling route between Fort William and Inverness passes through Fort Augustus. There are also many other local places to walk and cycle including the Caledonian Canal and ancient pine forests. We have mountain bikes available for guests to hire. There are many local mountain bike trails and bike parks managed by the Forestry Commission.
Canoes, Kayaks and Small Boats
We are on the new Great Glen Canoe Trail and due to our unique Loch Ness location we are easily accessible for all small water craft to moor up or canoes and kayaks can easily be pulled up onto the shore overnight. We also have Canadian canoes available for hire.
